James Evans MS for Brecon & Radnorshire is deeply concerned by the cuts that the new UK Labour Government are imposing in their first few weeks in office.

Andrew RT Davies MS, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, requested an Emergency Question to discuss this when the Senedd is recalled on the 6th August for the coronation of Eluned Morgan MS as First Minister. The request has been rejected.

James Evans MS said:

“I fear the cut to Winter Fuel Payment is the start of many more cuts and tax rises to come.  At a time when Ed Milliband says Labour will honour their pledge of £11.6billion pounds in overseas climate aid, they are denying Winter Fuel Payment for over 360,000 Welsh pensioners, robbing them of around £110 million. If we have a very cold winter, our pensioners need support to ensure they have that extra help to keep warm and well. In Powys alone, this means over 21,000 pensioners will have a £6.1million hit”
