James Evans MS has called on the Welsh Government to make a statement on the Boundary Commission after Radnorshire’s name was wiped off the new Senedd constituency to replace Brecon and Radnorshire at the next Senedd election.
From 2026, the current constituency of Brecon and Radnorshire will become ‘Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd’, essentially wiping Radnorshire, a county founded in 1536, off the map.
James Evans MS, Senedd Member for Brecon and Radnorshire, said:
“Many people across Radnorshire, including myself, are disgusted that the Boundary Commission has seemingly removed the county from the new super constituency that will come into force for the Senedd elections next year.
“As a proud Radnorshire man myself, this is very disheartening to see given the county was founded in 1536 and is a key part of what gives Mid Wales its rural identity. The Boundary Commission is seemingly keen to erase much of our local history.
“I have asked for a statement from the Welsh Government so the Senedd, and people that this decision stands to affect, can fully scrutinise these ridiculous proposals from the Boundary Commission.”
