James Evans MS is devastated to learn that Santander in Brecon Town Centre is set to close.
After losing a HSBC, Barclays, and most recently Lloyds Bank all within in the last 18 months, this decision is yet another blow to Brecon’s town centre and the residents who rely on this branch.
James Evans MS, Senedd Member for Brecon and Radnorshire, said:
“It’s truly devastating that Brecon and Radnorshire is set to lose yet another bank. This Santander branch serves a wider geographical area than Brecon and the surrounding areas. With no banking presence in Builth Wells or Hay-on-Wye, residents are travelling many miles to get to their nearest branch and concerns have already been raised about Brecon’s last remaining bank, NatWest.
“I will be working with LINK to reassess the Brecon area to see if it can qualify for a Banking Hub. Ystradgynlais town has recently been successful in its appeal for a banking hub, and this must be replicated in more rural towns like Builth Wells and Hay-on-Wye.”
